How to check whether an animal shelter is listed in the official register

What you type stays in this page’s memory: it is not stored, not put in the web address and not sent to analytics.
What it checks
- Whether the identifier or registration number is listed in that region’s register of associations, with the data date.
- Whether the registered name matches the one you were given.
- Which register applies and how it can be queried.
What it does not check
- Whether the organisation is still active today: the register copy has a date and that date is shown.
- How it cares for animals: welfare inspections are not public.
- Who runs or represents it today.
How to look it up yourself in three steps
- Ask in writing for the exact registered name, the tax ID (CIF) and the registration number.
- Open the region’s register of associations or the national register and search by name; if it does not appear, try without articles or the word “Asociación”.
- A correct entry shows the registration number and date.
Frequently asked questions
Does it mean anything if it is not listed?
It allows no conclusion about the organisation: it may be registered under another name or in another register, or the copy may predate its registration. You can ask for its registration number.
Is there a single register of shelters in Spain?
No. There is a national register of associations and regional ones, and not all allow automatic queries. That is why this page tells you where to look.
Is this a certificate?
No. It is a query to a public source with its date. We issue no certificates or ratings.
Is a matching name enough?
No. Someone can use a real organisation’s name. Without the tax ID or registration number we confirm nothing.
